This is some seriously creative thinking from Jason Edmiston.

Jason says, “I wanted to do a surreal piece, and was thinking about what lies below the tip of an iceberg… the photos I’ve seen on the subject are amazing. But what if what lies below is even more surprising? I also wanted to incorporate some pop culture reference, and Star Wars is my favorite.

There are so many things I love about this living room, it’s hard to pin-point exactly which part I like best.

A new app called Hybrowse just launched and aims to make the art of searching some of your favorite sites a little more intuitive.

The service (available for Netflix and Etsy now) was built by Jake Lodwick and designed by Peter Vidani and has an ambitious (read crazy) goal of having 1,000 active APIs wrapped in to the Hybrowse framework by May 1st.

I hope they reach their goal of 1,000, but even if they don’t, they’ve certainly made it easier to navigate Netflix for new movies. And oh yeah, I made my first purchase on Etsy today in months because of Hybrowse.

Hoefler & Frere-Jones are launching their 29th font family this Thursday called Vitesse. It looks incredible.

According to this New York Times article, Vitesse will be one of three fonts released by H&FJ in 2010.

The article also mentions a “secret formula they can’t talk about yet” involving technology that delivers fonts to your computer and browser. It looks like this year is already shaping up to be one of great typography.

Virgin Galactic unveils SpaceShipTwo, the world’s first manned commercial spaceship.

For those of us who thought that we’d be cruising around in flying cars by now, this will come as a welcome sight. Virgin Galactic has just unveiled the incredible SS2, a technical and creative marvel, that aims to take a few lucky “astronauts” in to space for a cool $200,000 USD.

Dieter Rams & Hans Gugelot’s landmark design — the first hi-fi with a clear plexiglas lid — is an update of the original SK 4.

Introduced in 1956, the series was known as the “Schneewitchensarg” — translated directly: “Snow White’s Coffin”. As an avid collector of vinyl, I can really appreciate the timeless beauty of this record player.

Dame Dash has a new project in the works called Blakroc that mixes guitar heavy tracks by The Black Keys with some of hip-hop’s best and brightest.

The album features 11 artists on 11 tracks recorded in just 11 days. The album is due out on Black Friday, November 27th, 2009 with appearances by Mos Def, Q-Tip, RZA, Raekwon and more.

Smart, tough, and sexy. Hello Tungsten.

Hoefler & Frere-Jones have done it again with their incredible new sans serif. Tungsten is “a compact and sporty sans serif that’s disarming instead of pushy — not just loud, but persuasive”.

I tend to agree and cannot wait to find a great use for this font.

Little Friends of Printmaking have created this beautiful Sonic Youth poster from a summer show in Milwaukee.

The poster is a hand made 3 color silkscreen print that measures 19” x 25”. It is a signed and numbered limited edition print that can be purchased at Poster Cabaret.

I just picked one up for my office and can’t wait to get it framed.

The city of Melbourne, Australia re-branded this summer. Lovely.

According to the conversation over at Brand New many people seem to think that the logo captures the essence of the city well.

The identity design was developed by the Sydney office of Landor and the City of Melbourne paid $A91,000 (US$74,000) in “preliminary research for the new brand” and $A148,000 (US$120,000) for the design itself. A bit on the expensive side, but very versatile and well-researched it appears.
